The Black Tornado used a variety of presses and traps resulting in 25 turnovers and a 56-36 win over the Cougars. A full-court press and half-court trap flustered Mountain View in the first quarter, when the Black Tornado took a 13-4 lead. "They came back on us but once we got our composure back we picked up our defensive intensity," said North coach Tim Karrick. "Once we did that, we were able to finish them off." The Cougars (1-4) came roaring back in the second quarter, going on an 11-2 run to start the period and sinking seven of 11 free throws to get within two at halftime, 23-21. Advertisement The third quarter, though, was much like the first, as the Cougars turned the ball over eight times and were outscored 13-4 by North Medford, which took a 36-25 lead wasn’t threatened after that. North Medford’s Kailey Bostwick led all scorers with 14 points. "She had a good game offensively but the thing I’m real impressed with is how she’s keeping her composure and holding onto the ball," Karrick said. Michelle Westermann grabbed 12 rebounds and stole the ball three times to go along with 11 points. Westermann, who led the Tornado to a 52-48 win over Bend on Friday night across town, finished the weekend averaging 13.5 points and 10 rebounds per game. Nerea Hofman led the Cougars with 11 points, scoring nine in the first half. The Tornado made 12 of 18 free throws in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
