Along with the bull riders — who statistically are 10 times more likely than football players to be seriously injured — competitors will include world-ranked bareback riders Bobby Mote, Steven Peebles and Austin Foss and world-renowned steer wrestlers Luke Branquino and Trevor Knowles. A Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association-sanctioned event, the action-packed show includes bull riding, saddle-bronc and bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, tie-down roping and barrel racing. Wild Rogue Pro Rodeo claims the only 100-point bull ride in the history of rodeo and helps propel riders to the finals in Las Vegas. Featured act this year is the McMillan Family Trick Riders, who will perform stunts and vaulting each night. The large family with 12 biological and adopted children lives on a ranch in Washington state, where the kids enjoy practicing and teaching each other new tricks, says mother Lynette McMillan. While McMillan's own mom was a professional trick rider who performed at Madison Square Garden and at a dude ranch, she never taught her daughter the sport. McMillan fell into the world of trick riding when she sent two of her children to a three-day trick riding camp — and they came home and began teaching their siblings. "It snowballed from there. As they learned more, they taught the others," McMillan says. "They're always out there messing around. The older teach the younger. They feed off each other." Also making nightly appearances are two longhorn cows known as the "Gentle Giants" and rodeo clown (and cowboy lifesaver) JJ Harrison, who has won the Northwest Clown of the Year nine times. Professional radio announcer Will Rasmussen will be the emcee. There are chances for people of all ages and abilities to unleash their inner cowboys and cowgirls, too.  Kids can enter the Mutton Bustin' contest to see who can ride a sheep the longest (it’s harder than you think). Another hit for the young’ins is the Boot Race, in which they scamper to find their shoes in the middle of the arena, put them back on and race back to win a new pair of boots. On Thursday, 105.1 The Wolf (KAKT-FM) will hold a Howl Off, in which the crowd chooses the best howl for a $500 prize. Contestants qualified by uploading videos to the radio station’s Facebook page each week in May and garnering the most likes. Once the adrenaline rush is over at about 9 or 9:30 each night, rodeo-goers can sashay over to the Rogue Saloon behind the Compton Arena for some live music, cocktails and dancing — and maybe even an autograph or two from some of the riders — till about midnight. 105.1 The Wolf starts off the after-parties Thursday night. On Friday, Billy Lund & Whiskey Weekend will take the reins, featuring lead singer Billy Lund, lead and steel guitarist Aaron Price, bass guitarist Dina Press, rhythm guitarist Jim Friend and drummer Brandon Glasscock. Lund is a two-time regional winner of the Texaco Country Show Down. The band plays contemporary country by artists such as Blake Shelton, Jason Aldean, Eric Church, and Thomas Rhett, classic country favorites from George Strait and Merle Haggard and original compositions. The group has opened for or performed with Martina McBride, Chris Janson, James Otto, Thomas Rhett, Morgan Frazier and the Moonshine Bandits. Saturday night, singer, songwriter and musician Scott William Perry, who has opened for American Idol finalist Kristy Lee Cook, Jake Owen, Eden’s Edge and Jon Pardi, will perform. The Brookings native has written more than 100 songs and recorded his first album, “More Than Just Goodbye,” in Nashville. He plays guitar and keyboards. The rodeo kicks off at 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday, May 28 -29, and at 5 p.m. Saturday, May 30, with rodeo events at 7 p.m. Advance tickets for Thursday's show cost $13, $7 for ages 12 and younger. Advance tickets for Friday and Saturday nights cost $16, $8 for kids. They can be purchased at Grange Co-op stores or online at www.wildproroguerodeo.com. Tickets will cost $18, $7 for kids, Thursday and $19, $8 for kids, Friday and Saturday.
