Engle shot a 3-under-par 69 Wednesday to earn medalist honors at the seven-team Pirate Invitational at Stone Ridge Golf Course. Equally as impressive, the Pirates rode Engle’s low score to a school 296 team total. Engle was 3 under on the front nine and even on the back to win the tournament by three strokes over Henley’s Blaine Corkill. Engle’s performance Wednesday is nothing new. On Monday, Engle shot a tournament low 72 at Tokatee Golf Club in Klamath Falls during an all-Skyline event. Advertisement The Pirates finished with a 308 to win the tournament. "Daniel, even as a freshman, has the maturity level to deal with the good and the bad," said Phoenix coach Kyle Walker. "He stays very consistent out there." Earlier this season, Engle tied for fifth place at the Central Coast Invitational to lead Phoenix to a team win. The tournament was hosted by last year’s Class 3A state champion Siuslaw and state runner-up Taft. Engle also fired a 74 in a season-opening victory for Phoenix at the Marist Invitational.
