The fourth-seeded Wilson faces Hood River Valley’s unseeded Sean Ritter today in second-round action. Ritter scraped together a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Roseburg’s Spencer Grieb in the first round. Grieb faces Wiechert today in the consolation bracket. In other boys singles action, Roseburg’s Justin Stimbert lost in straight sets to Joe Lonergan of Woodburn, 6-0, 6-0, and Ashland’s Jer-wei Chang was bounced from the tournament with a 6-0, 6-0 loss to North Salem’s Patrick Wilhelm. In boys doubles, Ashland’s Cory Lescher and Ross Mather lost to Wilson’s Paul Schechter and Ross Schunk, 6-2, 7-5. Advertisement The SOC girls had a strong first-day showing in singles as all four representatives advanced to the second round. Ruth Lopez of Grants Pass advanced to a second-round meeting with seventh-seeded Suzanna Massie of Marshfield after defeating Pendleton’s Kristine Beamer, 6-1, 6-4. Ashland’s Moyse took out Shyla Hargrave of Crook County in straight sets, winning 6-3, 6-2. Moyse will face Wilson’s top-seeded Momei Qu, last year’s runner-up and Portland Interscholastic League champion. Roseburg’s Wetmore beat Marisa Bricca of St. Mary’s Academy, 6-3, 6-0, while teammate Los had the most eventful day with a play-in victory over Sarah Ing of West Linn (6-3, 6-4) and an upset of Corvallis’ Tina Edinger-Snodgrass. The No. 8 seed was forced to retire in the first-round match after falling behind 7-5 and 4-3. In doubles, Ashland’s Chelsea Van Lehn and Kate Morris lost to Westview’s Shilpa Kasakurthi and Diane Bacalla, 6-4, 6-3.
