The aviation company said Thursday it made the decision last month, but no formal public announcement was made before the release of Erickson's second quarter financial results. Erickson acquired Evergreen Helicopters from Evergreen International Aviation in March 2013 for $250 million in a leveraged deal that played a role in the company's debt load. President and CEO Jeff Roberts said the move was part of broader effort, including the closure of unprofitable foreign subsidiaries. "We have a clear line of sight with $12 million to $15 million of savings and are pushing for more," Roberts said. "We’re pleased with our initial traction, and we’ll finalize this plan in the near term." Erickson spokesperson Susan Bladholm said the employees asked to relocate from the Yamhill County facility include people involved in records, maintenance and mechanical areas. "The move will come in phases, primarily in the fall," Bladholm said. "This is a big shift for our employees, and the company is trying to take a thoughtful approach, making sure the families involved can get their kids enrolled in school and get their households set up." Of the 51 employees who have worked at the former Evergreen site, 10 or 12 will move to the company's Portland headquarters. "Several of them split their time traveling and being in Portland," she said. Roberts said that Bell 214 manufacturing, maintenance, repair and overhaul work will continue to grow.
