Raider wrestlers go 3-1 at big tourney Jan 15, 2006 12:00 AM A A Cedar Falls, Iowa ' The Southern Oregon University wrestling team remains in the consolation hunt for a fifth-place finish after winning three of four matches on Day — of the Cliff Keen NAIA National Duals. The seventh-ranked Raiders opened the 16-team event with a 51-3 romp over NAIA neophyte King (Tenn.) College ' the school's most lopsided victory since a 56-0 romp over Oregon Tech in 1988-89. Two hours later, the Raiders lost their first nine matches against third-ranked Dana, Neb. and needed a third-period pin by sophomore heavyweight Taylor Wilkerson to avert suffering its first shutout loss since 1972 in a 29-6 quarterfinal setback. SOU bounced back with a 30-15 win against McKendree and a 24-12 victory over Dickinson State. Wilkerson, a former Crater High all-stater, went 4-0 on the day. — Second-ranked senior All-American David O'Brien had his three-year, 28-bout dual-meet win streak snapped in a 15-10 loss to Dana's unranked Marshall Arquardt. Women's Basketball EASTERN OREGON 79, SOUTHERN OREGON 42 ' At Ashland, Eastern Oregon scored 30 of the first 37 points and handed the Southern Oregon (9-11, 2-7 Cascade) its fourth consecutive McNeal Pavilion setback. The Mountaineers (11-6, 5-3 Cascade) by limited SOU to a 32-percent clip from the field (16 of 50). Junior post Adria Layne led all players with 18 points for Eastern, while junior guard Christie Weaver canned three 3-pointers en route to a 17-point outing. Junior post Kelsey Richards scored 12 for Southern, which trailed 38-15 at the half. EOU shot 45 percent (28 of 62) and out-boarded SOU 39-35.
