Emigh was a force on the mound and at the plate Saturday as Eagle Point won the Yreka, Calif., softball tournament, defeating Hidden Valley 10-0 in the championship game. It was the Eagles' third game of the day. They earlier beat Corning, Calif., 7-3 and Hidden Valley 17-0 in three innings. There were eight teams in the tournament. Emigh was chosen the tournament most valuable player, and three teammates — Dawn Wilkerson, Brooke Griggs and Karlie Stephens — joined her on the all-tourney team. In the six-inning title game, Emigh allowed three hits and struck out 13. Advertisement "We didn't use her as many innings as we might have," said Eagles coach Keith Williams. "Coming off that ankle injury, we're holding her back right now." Emigh also got the win in the first game, pitching five innings. Against Hidden Valley in the finale, Emigh relied heavily on her best pitch, a dropball, but also used her change-up and riseball effectively. "Our pitching's been real good so far," said Williams, whose team is 4-0 and hosts North Medford in a doubleheader on Tuesday. While Emigh was blanking the Mustangs, the Eagles were putting their bats to good use. Wilkerson was 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs and Griggs and Katie Jolliffe each had two hits. Griggs drove in two runs. The first game against Hidden Valley went only three innings because of a 15-run rule after three innings. Eagle Point's Stephens, a freshman, didn't allow a hit and struck out six batters with no walks. She also was 3-for-3 with a home run, double and four RBIs, and Emigh was 2-for-4 with four RBIs. In the first game against Corning, Griggs was 3-for-3, and Ashley Josephson had two hits and two RBIs. YREKA TOURNAMENT — At Yreka, Calif., Ashland's Bella Pribyl struck out 20 over two games as the Grizzlies took fourth place by splitting a pair of contests at the eight-team tournament. Ashland (4-2) defeated host Yreka 10-0 in five innings, then lost to Corning, Calif., 3-2 in eight innings. Amanda Good was 3-for-3 and Carley Santee had three RBIs in support of Pribyl's one-hitter against Yreka. Corning, by way of the international rule, posted the winning run in the bottom of the eighth. Both runs given up by Pribyl were unearned, and the Grizzlies stranded eight runners. MAZAMA 4-14, PHOENIX 0-5 — At Phoenix, Phoenix was swept in the nonconference twin bill, succumbing to strong pitching in the opener and big hitting in the nightcap. Mazama (4-1) got a two-hitter from sophomore Ali Edwards in the opener. She struck out five and walked none. Ashlie McDaniel had two hits. For Phoenix, Carlee Storey and Rebecca Singleton had singles. In Game 2, McDaniel and Quenby Cox each had two hits. Cox had four RBIs, and McDaniel and Ann Bocchi had three each. CASCADE CHRISTIAN 9-14, ILLINOIS VALLEY 1-10 — At Cave Junction, Chessa Fait threw a three-hitter with six strikeouts in the opener, then came on in relief to notch the win in the nightcap as Cascade Christian swept Illinois Valley in nonconference softball. Fait, a senior who sat out last season with a broken hand, also went 3-for-3 with two RBIs in Game 1. Bree Luzny and Nikki Jones helped out Cascade Christian's cause with two hits each. The second game was deadlocked at 10-all after five innings before Cascade Christian (2-1) pulled away for the sweep. Samantha Hoskins fueled the Challengers' offense in Game 2 with three hits and three RBIs. Sarah Miller was 3-for-3 in Game 2 to lead the Crusaders, who went the entire second contest and half of the first game without pitching ace Bri Williams because of a sore pitching arm.
