SOU men fall to Western Baptist ASHLAND - The Southern Oregon University men's basketball team was unable to overcome a statistical oddity in a 74-66 Cascade Conference loss to 17th-ranked Western Baptist College at McNeal Pavilion on Saturday night. The sixth-place Raiders (12-16 overall, 8-10 Cascade) cut a 17-point second-half deficit to five inside a minute, but they couldn't overcome the Warriors (25-6, 13-4), who shot a sizzling 63-percent from the field and had an unusual feat: more free throw attempts (38) than field goal attempts (35). Both the men's and women's squads return to action Wednesday night in the conference tournament quarterfinals with pairings, sites and times to be finalized this morning. Women's Basketball SOUTHERN OREGON 69, WARNER PACIFIC 68 - At Portland, Southern Oregon (16-10, 12-4 Cascade) ends the regular season on a winning note. The Raiders advance to their 13th straight postseason. Wrestling SOUTHERN OREGON 26, MENLO COLLEGE 18 - At Atherton, Calif., fifth-ranked Southern Oregon completed its dual season on a winning note during the final tune-up before the NAIA Championships slated for Mar. 1-2 at Great Falls, Mont. The Raider completed the season with a 7-3 dual record. Southern Oregon won the first four bouts of the match beginning with top-ranked Wes Balensifer's 9-1 victory over Jeff Dahl at 197 pounds. This streak included falls by Raiders Nolan Harris (125) and Jordan Ottow (133). But ninth-ranked Menlo battled back with four victories in the next five bouts. The dual came down to the final match when Southern Oregon's Abe Haddon registered a 7-6 victory over Terrance Carter at 184 to seal the victory. 197 - Wes Balensifer, SO, d.
