In the first crash, at about 8 p.m., Lisa Marie Forrest, 25, of Central Point was driving a 2002 Mitsubishi east on Highway 238 when she failed to negotiate a curve and hit a tree near Humbug Creek, Oregon State Police said. OSP Sgt. Brian Powers said Forrest was driving fast when her car left the road. Forrest and front-seat passenger Danyelle Cheree Mester, 25, of Long Beach, Calif., were trapped inside the smashed car until crews from Jackson County Fire District No. 9 freed them. Advertisement Rescuers pronounced Mester dead at the scene. A Mercy Flights helicopter flew Forrest to Rogue Valley Medical Center. Hospital officials said she was in critical condition Thursday. Back-seat passenger Brandon Snow, 19, no address listed, was thrown from the car. He suffered only minor injuries and was taken to Ashland Community Hospital for treatment, Powers said. A preliminary investigation indicates that alcohol was a factor in the crash, Powers said. Investigators continue their work. The Jackson County sheriff’s department is investigating the second accident, a motorcycle crash in the 400 block of Wagon Trail Drive, Jacksonville. Sheriff’s Capt. Joe Puckett said deputies got a call about 10:20 p.m. reporting a motorcycle crash. Deputies, District 9 firefighters and a Mercy Flights crew responded and found Tommy Joe Engleheart Jr., 19, of the 7900 block of Division Road, White City, dead at the scene of the accident. Engleheart’s relatives, who live in the 200 block of Arrowhead Pass Drive, not far from the accident, told police Engleheart left their home around 8:30 p.m. on a Honda 250XR dirt bike. He wasn’t wearing a helmet and wasn’t an experienced rider, Puckett said. When Engleheart didn’t return, relatives began searching for him. They called 9-1-1 when they found him and the wrecked bike, Puckett said. Investigators believe Engleheart failed to negotiate a turn in the roadway and struck a tree. Investigators, including a medical examiner continue to look into the crash, Puckett said.
