The two stores are anchors of the proposed Delta Center development at the intersection of Highway 62 and Delta Waters Road. The Delta Center is a 29-acre planned unit development proposed for the northwest corner of the intersection. The proposal calls for 25 buildings, including a 30,610-square-foot Best Buy, a 45,200-square-foot Sportsman's Warehouse and professional offices. The project has been under review by the city for a couple years due in part to traffic concerns because it will be constructed at one of the city's most congested intersections. To ease potential traffic problems, the city is requiring the developer, Cris Galpin, to extend Excel Drive and install a three-way traffic signal at Lear Way and Delta Waters Road. The plan also calls for access to come from the north side of the property, away from the highway. Gary Leaming, project information coordinator with the Oregon Department of Transportation, said the developers have worked with ODOT to ensure the proposed Highway 62 bypass will not interfere on the western side of the project. Best Buy is a Fortune 100 company and the largest specialty retailer of consumer electronics, personal computers and related goods in North America. The company's corporate headquarters are near Minneapolis. Sportsman's Warehouse, based near Salt Lake City, offers an extensive selection of outdoor gear, including hunting, fishing, camping, optics, clothing and footwear.
