Late rally gives Challengers No. 3 seed May 22, 2009 12:00 AM A A After losing a three-run lead in the top of the sixth inning, the Cascade Christian softball team reclaimed control in the bottom of the frame in a Sunset League seeding game at U.S. Cellular Community Park. The Challengers captured an 11-9 victory over Rogue River on Thursday, and with it, the league's No. 3 seed for the Class 3A playoffs. Cascade Christian (15-8) will square off with host Glide today in another seeding contest to determine the Sunset's second seed. The loser is handed the No. 3 seed as Rogue River settled with the fourth seed with the loss. In the top of the sixth, the Chieftains strung together five consecutive hits to score five runs. After a single and Dakota Coldsmith's RBI triple, Rogue River had three-straight doubles to pick up a 9-8 advantage. But the Challengers quickly regained their composure and the lead. In the bottom of the sixth, The Challengers' Amanda Kinney drove in Nikki Jones from second to tie the game 9-all and later scored the winning run on a single to third by Jasmine Gomez. Gomez later tacked on an insurance run by scoring on a passed ball. Kinney scored three times and Bree Luzny drove in three for the Challengers. Kinney, Luzny and Hayley Casebier all went 2-for-4. McKenzie Cates went 4-for-4 for Rogue River, which also received a pair of hits and two RBIs each from Coldsmith and Sabrina Smith.
