Suspect sought in suspicious Shady Cove fires

Tips are being sought to track down a suspect in a trio of Shady Cove area grass fires that the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office believes were intentionally set Thursday night and early the next morning. The first of three suspicious — but swiftly snuffed-out — grass fires was reported at 9:10 p.m. Thursday in the area of Train Lane and Highway 62, according to a sheriff's release. A second grass fire was reported about four hours later at 1:11 a.m. in the area of Brophy Way and Highway 62, according to police, and the third fire was reported at 1:19 a.m. in the 2500 block of Indian Creek Road. Crews from Oregon Department of Forestry and Jackson County Fire District 4 were called to fire. No structures were lost and no one was injured, according to the sheriff’s office. A resident extinguished one of the fires with a shovel before crews arrived. Witnesses told investigators they saw a Pontiac Sunfire sedan flee the area after being spotted. The compact sedan was described as light-colored, possibly tan, gold or beige. Anyone with information about the fires is asked to call Cpl. Steven Scow at 541-776-7206 and refer to case No. 18-18294.
