Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend October 29, 2005 Hostel in Ashland has potential buyer Just closed for several months of remodeling, the venerated Ashland Hostel was suddenly put on the market Monday at $595,000 and quickly received an offer. Owners Pennie Rose and Andreanna Jovan said the potential buyer, a bed-and-breakfast owner in Colorado, has given assurances she will continue the hostel’s 25-year run as a favored and affordable accommodation for travelers. The pair bought the hostel in August last year, with the intention of allowing their daughter, Tammy Court, to manage it. But Court is soon moving out of state, Jovan said, and they don’t want the considerable workload themselves. Diane Paulson of RE/MAX in Ashland confirmed Friday the interested buyer is from Winterpark, Colo., and is committed to running it as a hostel. Rose and Jovan shut the 95-year-old, olive-green craftsman-style hostel down on Oct. 5. They said their intention was to revamp all rooms and infrastructure, and reopen it in mid-summer 2006. Previous owner Jennifer Bacon of Ashland, who sold the house in 2004, said it’s a critical player in the town’s tourism traffic, housing many recreational travelers on the interstate and hikers from the Pacific Crest Trail. The seven-bedroom, four-bath house at 150 N. Main St. offered rooms at $21 a person or $50 a family, a fraction of motel costs, and had housed as many as 50 at a time. It included a dining room, laundry, bike rental, common room, free Internet and movies — with separate dorms for men and women.
