Rogue Valley fire prevention group gets national award Feb 24, 2014 12:00 AM A A A Southern Oregon fire prevention group has received national recognition for its efforts to prevent the spread of wildfires into urban areas. The Rogue Valley Fire Prevention Cooperative received the runner-up prize in the 2013 Firewise Challenge contest. It will receive a $900 check to purchase tools and materials like chainsaw chaps and work gloves, which which will be loaned to communities performing wildfire mitigation work. The co-op is an interagency, nonprofit group that encompasses the Applegate Valley, Seven Basins area, Greensprings and a portion of suburban Ashland designated as a wildfire hazard zone.
