Matthew Raye Baker, 27, was arrested on Gibson Street just before 1 p.m., according to Talent police. The Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office said deputies found a man dead in his home at about 7 a.m. Monday after receiving a call that a person may have been killed at the location on Birch Lane, in an unincorporated area northwest of Mount Shasta near Truck Village Drive. Investigators said it looked like the man had been attacked. Information about the man's identity or how he was killed was not immediately available. Investigators identified Baker, most recently of Spokane, Wash., as a person of interest, and sent out notifications to police departments in the region with his photograph and the type of car he may have been driving, a silver Kia Soul. A Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office release said Baker had caught a Greyhound bus north and got off in Medford. Talent police Chief Mike Moran said the department received a call at 12:32 p.m. in the 200 block of Gibson Street. The caller reported a man had walked up to the caller's home, stood just inside the front door for a few moments, then left after being asked why he was there. A responding officer found and arrested Baker without incident. Moran says it isn't known why Baker came to Talent or why he stood inside the doorway. The California Highway Patrol assisted Siskiyou County deputies with the initial investigation and helped secure the crime scene.
