The Royals took the opener 3-1, then blanked the Mavericks, 8-0 in the nightcap. Ron Depuy scattered six hits and didn’t allow an earned run to post the victory in Game 1, while Chris Boyd threw a seven-hit shutout in the nightcap. Sammy McHenry had six hits in as many at-bats for the Mavericks during the twin bill. North Jackson, which has won seven of its past nine games, boosted its league and overall records to 12-6 and 22-15, respectively. Little League MEDFORD AMERICAN THIRD — At Salem, the Medford American 11-12 boy all-stars ended their season by placing third in the state tournament Wednesday, losing their finale to Murray Hill, 7-4. Medford, which led 4-1 after three innings, got a home run from E.J. Singler and doubles from Griffin Boyd and Kody Stevens. On Tuesday, Medford managed three hits and suffered its first loss after two consecutive wins when it was blanked by tournament host Parrish, 12-0. It was a 3-0 game entering the sixth inning. Girls Little League DIVISION I SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT — At White City, Kylie Morin struck out 11 while leading an Oregon team from Salem to a 12-4 victory over Alaska in the 11-12-year-old event at the Jackson County Sports Park. Oregon plays the winner of today’s Alaska versus Washington matchup in the championship on Saturday at 6 p.m. Lynn Robinson had two hits and three RBIs — including a two-run triple during a six-run fifth inning for Oregon. Teammate Makila Araiza also had two hits and knocked in four runs. In another game Thursday, Idaho was eliminated after a 10-0 loss to Washington.
