The two teams square off again today with a doubleheader starting at 9 a.m. Garrett gave Southern Oregon (17-10) a 2-0 lead after one inning with his first home run of the season. The RiverDogs added four more runs in the third and tacked on three in the fifth to put the game out of reach. Matt Skundrick ran his pitching record to 4-2 after six innings of work. He gave up one earned run on four hits and struck out eight. Advertisement The game was shortened to eight innings due to a shortage of pitchers for Butte. S.O. W — Skundrick (4-2). 2B — SO: Ouellette. HR — SO: Garrett (1). Babe Ruth 15-YEAR-OLD STATE TOURNAMENT — At Roseburg, the Medford all-star team opened the six-team tournament with two wins on Friday. Medford took out Umpqua Valley, 8-0, then slipped by Josephine County, 7-4. Ryan Odell pitched a complete-game shutout in the victory over Umpqua, giving up two hits while striking out nine. Chris Helman and Ben Koziol led the offensive attack with two hits apiece. Odell carried the big stick in the win over Josephine County with a 3-for-3 performance to go along with two RBIs. Zack Wilson and Kelly Kline each added a pair of hits, while Rick Imhausen picked up the win in four innings of work. Mike Wilkinson and Marcos Moralles each had to hits to pace Josephine County. Medford continues on in the winners’ bracket with a 1:30 p.m. game today. Little League Baseball DISTRICT 6 TOURNAMENT — Ashland stayed alive in the 11-12-year-old All-Star tournament with a 10-6 victory over Upper Rogue at Medford American Fields. Also advancing in losers’ bracket play was South Suburban, a 13-0 winner over Ore-Cal. Ashland and South Suburban face off today at 6 p.m. in the double-elimination tournament. Medford American Blue faces Klamath Falls at 6 p.m. today in the lone winners’ bracket contest. 9-10-YEAR-OLD STATE TOURNAMENT — At Portland, Medford American Blue opened the eight-team state tournament with an 8-6 victory over Corvallis. Medford, which fell behind 5-0 after three innings, rallied with three runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth to grab the lead for good. Philip Jabonobic went 2-for-3 to lead Medford at the plate and pitched the first three innings before giving way to Shaun Whitehead. Medford continues pool play today with a 1 p.m. game against Roseburg.
