She was the youngest daughter of John and Mary (Roback) Bradetich. Born November 11, 1930 at home on the Bradetich Brothers Dairy farm here in Bend. Betty graduated in 1948 from Bend High School. She married Carl Leonard Slate November 12, 1949 at St.Francis Catholic Church. In the '50s she was one of Bend's number please telephone operators. After her husband passed in 1981 she worked for a time at Sears before finding her calling at the U.S.F.S seed extractor; she worked there for 20+ years, retiring in 2011. Betty is survived by her children, James Slate and Lori of Talent, Ore., and Linda Gilliland and Charles of Bend, Ore.; grandchildren, Scott Gilliland and Dannette of Richland, Wash., Chris Gilliland and Kelly of Bend, and Becky Collins and Jeff of Bend; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters-in-law, Donna Robertson and John, Pauline Robeck and Bill, and Lucy Halverson all of Bend, Margaret Larsen of Issaquah, Wash., Idella Marshall of Albany Ore., Doris Anderson of Beaverton, Ore., and Virginia Achterberg of Hesperia, Calif.; and brother-in-law, George Bulyk of Wallingford, Conn. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents, also sisters, Mary, Helen, and Edith. We would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at Arbor Place in Medford and Providence Hospice for their loving care of mom. A visitation will be held from 2:004:00 p.m. Friday, December 5, 2014 at Niswonger-Reynolds Funeral Home, Bend. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 6, 2014 at Niswonger-Reynolds Chapel followed by interment at Pilot Butte Cemetery, Bend. You may also offer your condolences at www.niswonger-reynolds.com In Lieu of flowers please donate to the charity of your choice. There will be a gathering from Noon-2:00 p.m. at the Elks Lodge.
