LIGHT ONE CANDLE Woman could use clothes, pet supplies Comment By Sarah Lemon for the Mail Tribune Follow @@thewholedish MailTribune.com By Sarah Lemon for the Mail Tribune Follow @@thewholedish Posted Dec. 15, 2015 at 12:01 AM By Sarah Lemon for the Mail Tribune Follow @@thewholedish Posted Dec. 15, 2015 at 12:01 AM » Social News Editor's note: Light One Candle is an annual series sponsored by the Mail Tribune that focuses on an individual, group or agency that could use a helping hand during the holiday season. Once that need is filled, donations may be distributed to others in need. New clothes would give a developmentally disabled woman a chance to shine while pet supplies would benefit the light of her life. This 45-year-old woman has lived in a Medford group home for the past 26 years. A severe seizure disorder in addition to other disabilities make work impossible for the woman, a client of Living Opportunities. So she dedicates her days to her therapy dog and constant companion, a dachshund named CeCe. CeCe goes everywhere with the woman, and she nurtures the hope that they can perform a dance routine together for the next Live to Dance With the Arc Stars. The flagship fundraiser for The Arc Jackson County helps people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to achieve the quality of life they desire with the nonprofit organization’s assistance. The event is planned for March 12 at Cascade Christian High School. Last year’s audience numbered about 350. A dressy outfit for the dance competition would enhance the woman’s confidence. A gift card to Ross Dress for Less would allow her to purchase it. CeCe could put his best paw forward with some items from Grange Co-op Pet Country. A gift card from Pet Country or another pet supply store also would make it easier for the woman to keep taking care of him. Her limited financial resources leave little left over for these kinds of extras, said her caseworkers with Living Opportunities. Living Opportunities operates under the mission of giving people with developmental disabilities places in the larger community, working for the same employers, living in the same neighborhoods and experiencing life in ways to which everyone aspires.
