I would be curious to see some comprehensive list of which ones are happening this summer in Southern Oregon and how they'll affect travel plans. Thanks. — No name given We've got you covered, humble traveler; here's a rundown for ODOT summer 2015 projects, courtesy of agency spokesman Gary Leaming. First, the obvious one. The $72 million Fern Valley Interchange construction project at exit 24 off Interstate 5 in Phoenix is still going strong, with 50 mph speed zones close to the work site. Probably not much of an impact for traveling motorists, though minor delays are expected in the nearby Highway 99 reconstruction portion, with traffic funneled into single lanes intermittently through the project's duration. All the work should be finished by September 2016. Another closer-to-home project has just begun at the intersection of highways 62 and 140 out in White City. That $1 million safety improvement project will add new traffic signals, lighting and signaled pedestrian crosswalks. The eastern approach on Highway 140 will also be widened, with a dedicated left turn lane, single through lane, and right turn lane added. The western approach will be restriped for a dedicated left turn lane and shared right and through lane. For this one, be prepared for nighttime single lane traffic and minor delays. ODOT expects this project to be done by September of this year. A $2.3 million project is also underway at exit 61 off I-5 in Merlin. The biggest inconvenience to motorists, a 5-day closure to reconstruct the exit's northbound off ramp, already concluded last month. The rest of the work — modifying a traffic signal and installing an additional one — should have a minimal impact to motorist drive time. It should all be done no later than October. Repaving of a 15-mile stretch of Highway 199 out toward the Oregon Coast is getting close to wrapping in the next few weeks. The $4.9 million project, which runs between mileposts 14 and 29, also includes improvements such as enhanced signage, guard rails and new lane configuration. There still could be nighttime delays of up to 20 minutes as the crews' work draws to a close. Northward in Douglas and Coos counties, there's an additional $7.5 million project that could also cause some snags for folks heading over to the Coos Bay stretch of coastline. There will be curve safety improvements between mileposts 38 and 46 on Highway 42. An official start date is to be determined, but be on the lookout for intermittent lane closures. Other simpler, less labor-intensive maintenance work is also planned at several sites across Southern Oregon during the summer months — projects such as simple maintenance on Highway 62 at the Delta Waters intersection.
