Good hitting. Airtight defense. Roseburg had it all Saturday against Crater in a Southern Oregon Conference doubleheader at Anhorn Field. The Indians parlayed their near-flawless play into a 12-2, 12-1 sweep of the Comets. Both games were halted after five innings by virtue of the 10-run mercy rule. "You have to play perfect baseball against them and we didn’t," said Crater coach Jim Powell, whose team fell to 0-3 in the SOC and 3-5 overall. "You make mistakes and they capitalize." Dusty Brigham hit a two-run double that sparked a six-run third inning in the opening game, wiping out Crater’s early 2-0 lead. One inning later, Quentin Clark blasted a three-run homer and the Indians tacked on two more runs for an 11-2 lead. Advertisement Clark, Brian Benson and Brandt Walker each had two hits for the Indians (5-3, 3-0 SOC) in Game 1. Winning pitcher Alex Cook limited Crater to five hits and struck out nine. In Game 2, Eric Thompson pitched a four-hitter and Brett Stephens drilled a three-run homer for the visitors. Aaron Buxton and Blake Keitzman each had two hits. Brigham, the Indians’ cleanup hitter, went 5-for-6 with six RBIs in the twin bill. "He had some good swings — he made contact all day," said Roseburg coach Troy Thompson of Brigham. "The whole team was aggressive. We put together a couple of solid efforts." SOUTH MEDFORD 14-11, KLAMATH UNION 5-5 — At Klamath Falls, Logan Boyd’s lead-off home run in the fifth inning of the opener ignited a six-hit, six-run outburst that carried South Medford. In Game 2, the Panthers (7-1, 3-0 SOC) trailed 5-3 when, with two outs and the bases loaded, Jared Adamson belted a three-run double in the sixth. Adamson went 7-for-9 on the day and had four doubles, including three in the second game. Klamath Union (1-8, 1-3 SOC) had 17 hits on the day but committed 14 errors. Craig Dolmage and Mike Mills each had a home run and combined for five RBIs for the Cavemen (3-3, 3-0 SOC) in the six-inning opener. In Game 2, Grants Pass’ Ben Murray pitched a one-hitter in the five-inning contest shortened by the 10-run mercy rule. Pat Allen went 5-for-5 in the nightcap for the Cavemen.
