Mustangs drop Falcons After getting shellacked by the Klamath Falls Falcons 24-10 the night before, the Medford Mustangs took advantage of darkness to register a 9-6 game-shortened victory over the Falcons in non-league American Legion action Thursday at Miles Field. The scheduled nine-inning contest was called in the top of the eighth when the lights at Miles Field could not be turned on. Medford squandered a 6-3 lead in the seventh when the Mustangs' third pitcher, Dustin Butler, surrendered three runs. Tony Conklin relieved Butler and struck out the final two batters to end the inning. In the bottom of the seventh, Conklin opened with a single and Shawn Backstrom followed with a base hit. Backstrom took second when the Falcons made a play on Conklin at third. After David Henneman grounded out, Jon McCollum reached on an error to load the bases. Phil Ouellette greeted Klamath reliever Brad Bailey with a two-out, two-run single to center and Folsom followed with a RBI single to give the Mustangs a 9-6 lead. Ouellette, Backstrom and Folsom each collected three hits for Medford. The Mustangs (4-2) host the Chico Nuts in a Sunday doubleheader beginning at 6 p.m. at Miles Field.
