At about 1:20 p.m., a Community Works employee taking a break at one of the park’s picnic tables reported that a man who pretended to have a gun confronted him and stole cash and credit cards. The robber then ran toward Jackson Street, the victim told police. Officers rushed to the area, Medford police Lt. Tim George said. They got a description of the robber, then learned that a man matching that description had tried to use one of the stolen credit cards at a gas station near the park, he said. At 1:42 p.m. on Fifth Street near Apple Street, a patrol sergeant stopped a man who matched the description of the robber, George said. The victim confirmed that the suspect was the man who robbed him. Officials recovered the stolen cash and credit cards. They charged Robert Allen Galligan, 20, no address listed, with second-degree robbery. He was lodged in the Jackson County Jail in lieu of $1 million bail.
