Hearts & Vines awards $185,000 to seven local charities Monday Dec 19, 2016 at 12:01 AM Local report The Hearts & Vines Foundation has awarded $185,000 to seven charities in Jackson County, with the largest grant of $110,000 going to Community Works Dunn House/Victim Services. In addition to Community Works, charities receiving awards and the amount received were: CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), $17,000; The Family Nurturing Center, $15,000; Domestic Violence Foundation, $20,000; Project Dove (Medford School District), $10,000; Children’s Advocacy Center, $8,000 and Jackson County SART (Sexual Assault Response Team), $5,000. Scott Weiland, board president for the Hearts & Vines Foundation, noted the annual event was augmented this year by a Hearts & Hops charity fundraiser and beer-tasting event. The grant awards were distributed Dec. 12 in a reception at the Lithia Motors Headquarters by the Hearts & Vines Foundation Board of Trustees and included 2016 event sponsors. The Hearts & Vines Foundation is a Jackson County nonprofit organization that funds community-based youth and family programs with a focus on the elimination of domestic violence through education, prevention and intervention. The event was founded in 1993 by Mark Wisnovsky and Chris Borovansky as a way to raise money for a local domestic violence shelter and to focus attention on the growing wine industry of Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. Since 1993, nearly $3.2 million has been disbursed by the foundation to Southern Oregon nonprofit organizations working to serve, educate and help prevent domestic violence.
