[Mail Tribune / file photo] A Southern Oregon coffee chain is hoping to set a new fundraising record Friday with its 17th annual Coffee for a Cure campaign. The Human Bean will donate 100% of its food and drink sales from Oct. 21 to breast cancer-related causes in Southern Oregon. The drive-thru chain’s hundreds of locations across the country will participate, as well, according to a news release from the company. The Medford-based company’s Coffee for a Cure campaign raised $426,551.42 this time last year, and collectively since 2005 has raised more than $2.6 million for nonprofit organizations focused on breast cancer diagnosis, treatment and care, according to an earlier news report . The company was founded in Ashland in 1998, and has since grown to more than 300 locations in 25 states open or under construction, with the most recent grand openings being in Lake City, Florida, and Kent, Ohio, according to the company. Local franchisees and managers donate the proceeds to foundations and nonprofits in the areas they serve that “help patients going through treatment with mammograms, post-diagnosis care, support and education,” according to a release from the chain. The company has concocted new coffee drinks for the fundraiser, including a Vanilla Cold Brew coffee with pink cherry blossom-flavored foam, and a new Vanilla Shortbread Latte that features cinnamon sprinkles. Stands will also be stocked with limited edition mugs, bracelets, apparel and other merchandise with the Coffee for a Cure logo. Coffee for a Cure is the chain’s biggest fundraiser of the year, and breast cancer is a cause that hits home to the company. “Since starting this fundraiser in 2005, at The Human Bean we’ve lost a barista, franchise owner, family and friends to breast cancer,” the release states.
