Local business briefs: Jan. 24 Tuesday Jan 23, 2018 at 3:29 PM Jan 23, 2018 at 3:29 PM Greg Stiles Mail Tribune @GregMTBusiness Noble Coffee Roasters wins another Good Food Award Noble Coffee Roasting of Ashland once again produced a memorable brew, notching yet another win in the 2018 Good Food Awards. Noble's Ethiopian "Bishan Fugu" topped a nationwide field, making the roaster a winner for the sixth time. No other coffee roasting company in the country has won as many Good Food Awards as Noble Coffee Roasting during the program's eight-year history. The two years the Ashland firm didn't win, it was a finalist. The 2,000 entries from 199 companies were judged on taste, authenticity and sourcing. Winners were acknowledged last week at the San Fransisco War Memorial and Performing Arts Center. Noble was among 20 Oregon winners in a broad range of food categories: Beer, charcuterie, cheese, chocolate, cider, coffee, confections, elixirs, fish, honey, oils, pantry, pickles, preserves and spirits. The roaster was the lone Southern Oregon winner. Noble Coffee Roasting founder Jared Rennie visited the Bishan Fugu district in December. Beans are grown on the Hambela Estate on land developed by the family of Muluemebet Emiru, Africa’s first female pilot, following World War II. Entrepreneur Expo will occur March 8 in Medford The 16th annual Entrepreneur Expo, hosted by Women Entrepreneurs of Southern Oregon, is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. March 8 at the Inn at the Commons in Medford. The Expo is a combination trade show and networking event for entrepreneurs in the Rogue Valley and beyond looking to build their businesses. The event offers the opportunity for hundreds of business owners and customers to connect while taking advantage of the concurrent trade show. The Inn at the Commons is at 200 N. Riverside Ave. WESO is a nonprofit association of entrepreneurs helping each other achieve business goals through networking, education and inspiration. This event benefits Community Works and Dunn House Shelter, and is admission free. Vendors interested in participating can find information at www.wesoweb.org RCC to hold meetings on dental assistant program Rogue Community College has scheduled three informational meetings about its dental assistant program. RCC’s Allied Health Occupations Department hosts the sessions outlining the one-year certificate program at the Riverside Campus, A Building, Room 21, at 202 S. Riverside Ave., Medford. The sessions are at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 31; noon, Tuesday, Feb. 6; and 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13. Attendance is mandatory for anyone applying for admission to the program. The program is financial aid-eligible. Once accepted into the program, students can register for classroom and practical training courses designed to help them develop the necessary skills for high-demand jobs in the healthcare industry. Historic Monarch Building wins Restore Oregon award Downtown Medford’s historic Monarch Building has earned Restore Oregon’s DeMuro Award for Excellence in Preservation, Reuse and Community Revitalization. The building, now home to Common Block Brewing Co., was nominated by the city of Medford and received the statewide award that “recognizes the creativity, persistence, and craftsmanship required by outstanding restoration projects.” Initially slated for demolition as part of downtown redevelopment, the property owner and the city determined that success of the larger project would be greatly enhanced by retaining the Leever building and its history. A series of auto dealerships occupied the building for five decades. Lithia Motor Co., Carlos Delgado Architect, ORW Architecture, Structural Solutions, the city of Medford and Common Block Brewing were recognized for their roles in the project.
