The former Rogue River High standout, who now golfs at Oregon State, owns a three-stroke edge on South Medford’s Reese Fisher and Klamath Falls’ Craig Ronne, who both fired 70s. Those three will tee off at 1:27 p.m. this afternoon. The Championships, also known as the city championships, conclude today. Mike Barry and Ryan Whittaker each recorded a 71. Murphy became the first back-to-back winner in the city in 14 years last year, shooting a two-day score of 9-under 135. The other first-day leaders were Nick Daggitt (men’s open), Jay Klemp (men’s junior-senior), John Kandaris (men’s senior), Pat Daggitt (men’s super senior) and Christina Phelps (women).
