On Senior Night, the Comets rebounded from a slump in Game 2 and improved to 4-2 in the conference. Eagle Point is 3-3. "We came out really strong and played well the first game," said Crater coach Natalie Hawks. "We were serving and passing well and obviously doing pretty well with our hitting. Then we got down in the second game by a couple of points and really lost it as far as our concentration. Our passing went away and we missed a lot of serves. That was our biggest weakness, serving." The Comets missed five serves in the second game, "and that's just five points you're giving to the other team," Hawks said. Crater trailed by double digits in Game 2 but finished strong. It carried the momentum into the third game and took control. Advertisement "We could have lost that game big," said Hawks, "but we stepped up and started serving the ball in." For the Comets, Arlisa Hoffman had 25 digs and two aces, Haley Hevern had 25 digs and 10 kills, Alana Harding had seven kills, five blocks and two digs and Randi Salyer had 32 assists, 10 digs and seven kills. ASHLAND 3, MAZAMA 0 — At Ashland, second-ranked Ashland rolled to the Southern Sky win, 25-13, 25-12, 25-19. Sarah Holgen had 17 kills, 10 digs and three solo blocks to lead the Grizzlies (30-6, 6-0 SSC). Ruby Stocking added 10 kills, 12 digs, three solo blocks and two aces. Skyline Conference HIDDEN VALLEY 3, PHOENIX 0 — At Murphy, Hidden Valley served 16 aces en route to a 25-13, 25-8, 25-17 triumph. Amanda Berry led the Mustangs with seven aces and piled up 23 digs. Hidden Valley (13-5, 5-1 Skyline) played without all-league middle hitter Megan Swanson, who sat out with a hamstring injury. Channel Smith added four aces and seven kills for Hidden Valley, Heather Wicks had 10 digs, four kills and three blocks and setter Sam Henning contributed 10 assists. HENLEY 3, ROGUE RIVER 0 — At Klamath Falls, serving and ball control keyed second-ranked Henley's 25-7, 25-11, 25-7 win over Rogue River, which wasn't at full strength because of injuries for the Skyline match. Megan Christensen powered the Hornets with 15 kills, and libero Katie Nelson was solid in the passing game and fired five aces. Rogue River (3-3 Skyline) received strong performances out of setters Ashley Salleur and Jessica Freitas. Henley (15-3, 7-0 Skyline Conference), which jumped to a 14-1 lead in Game 3. Southern Cascade League CASCADE CHRISTIAN 3, BONANZA 0 — At Jacksonville, Cascade Christian served at 95 percent with only one error in coasting past Bonanza, 25-11, 25-19, 25-14, in a Southern Cascade League matchup. Melissa Gmur powered the Challengers with 11 kills, 15 assists, 10 digs and three aces, while Emily Sellers added six kills and four aces. The Challengers' Kelsey Ost was 11-for-11 passing and added nine digs for top-ranked Cascade Christian (12-3, 6-0 SCL), which had 32 digs and 10 aces. ST. MARY'S 3, LAKEVIEW 1 — At Lakeview, senior middle Sara Godshall had 11 of her career-high 12 kills in the first two games to lead St. Mary's to the SCL win over fifth-ranked Lakeview. Godshall also had four blocks and four aces as the Crusaders, who dropped the conference opener to the Honkers, improved to 12-8 overall and 3-3 in league play. Lakeview fell to 2-2 in the SCL. Also for St. Mary's, Melissa Lass had 21 digs and 10 kills, with five coming in the match-clinching fourth game. Setter Cynthia Naumes had 17 digs and 39 assists, and Laura Thompson added five kills and five blocks and was instrumental in helping contain Lakeview standout outside hitter Keli Hall at the net.
