Makepeace, a 5-foot-10 junior, was a third-team selection on the girls all-state squad, while Cox, a 5-11 junior, was honorable mention. They were previously chosen as Skyline Conference co-players of the year. Makepeace averaged 14.1 points, six rebounds and three steals per game in leading North Valley to an 18-9 record and third-place showing in conference. Cox averaged 8.6 points and nine rebounds to help advance Phoenix (16-10) to the state tournament. The Pirates posted an 11-3 record in Skyline play to place second. Ontario’s Stephanie Hawk was chosen 3A girls player of the year, with Alice Herauf named coach of the year. On the boys side, Hesia was a first-team selection after leading Mazama to a No. 2 state ranking. The 5-8 senior was also granted his second straight player-of-the-year honor from Skyline coaches after averaging 23.8 points, 8.3 assists and 4.2 steals per game for the Vikings (21-6). Led by Hesia and Brosterhous, an honorable mention all-state selection, Mazama earned its second straight conference title this past season but was upset in the state tournament and failed to earn a trophy. Brosterhous, a 6-6 senior, averaged 12.6 points and 8.4 rebounds for the Vikings. Tillamook swept the top honors, with senior Jason Hartford named 3A boys player of the year and Alex Iwaniw named coach of the year. 2002-03 Class 3A All-State GIRLS First Team Player School Yr. Ht.
