Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend December 4, 2005 Stoutenburgh takes fifth at regional meet Prep Roundup WALNUT, Calif. — Crater High distance running standout Isaac Stoutenburgh took fifth place at the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships West Regional here Saturday. Stoutenburgh, who is headed to the University of Oregon on a track scholarship, covered the difficult, 3-mile course in 15 minutes and 43 seconds. By finishing in the top eight, he qualified for the national Foot Locker race next Thursday in San Diego. "There were 40 state champions here from 10 different states — that gives an idea of the competition Isaac went up against," Crater cross country coach Justin Loftus said. "He’s pumped at how he did. Qualifying for the national meet was a big goal." Stoutenburgh blazed to a time of 4:38 over the first mile, then hit a series of switchbacks and a big hill that slowed the runners. At that point, a pack of eight runners formed at the front. Stoutenburgh was in eighth place as the runners came on to the track at Mount San Antonio College. He passed up three competitors over the final 250 meters. Crater junior Jake Keyser finished 67th in 16:47. A.J. Acousta of El Camino High in Oceanside, Calif., won the boys meet in 15:38. Benjamin Sitler of St. Francis High in Los Altos, Calif., was second in 15:39, followed by Matthew Tebo of El Dorado High in Albuquerque, N.M., and Michael Coe of Cabrillo High in Lompoc, Calif.
