Email Story to a Friend June 19, 2006 Martinez rides EZ Speedy Leader to fast time GRANTS PASS — Jockey Jaime Martinez raced EZ Speedy Leader to the fastest time in qualifying for the Firecracker Futurity at Grants Pass Downs Sunday. Eight quarter horses emerged from five heat races for the big event on the Fourth of July. EZ Speedy Leader, the winner of the Portland Meadows Futurity, was clocked in 17.73 seconds for 350 yards in the seventh race. Eyelash was close behind in 17.76 in the eighth race, and Be First Rose and Hot Properties tied for third at 17.88 in the seventh and eighth races, respectively. Jockeys Tim Neal and Joe Crispin each had three wins on the afternoon. All of Neal’s where in the trials.
