The all-star senior catcher pounded out five hits in five at-bats to lead a North Medford offensive assault that produced a 19-6, five-inning victory against Forest Grove. Undefeated North Medford has been an offensive juggernaut in early-season action. The Black Tornado has scored 61 runs, collected 23 extra-base hits and has accumulated a team batting average of .513 in its four wins. Folsom upped his team-best average to .727 with his big day against the Vikings. He had five RBIs and scored three runs. North got three hits each from sophomore Abe Eubank, Kyle Williamson and Brandon White. Advertisement In the first inning, Eubank drove in North’s first two runs with a triple. The rally was further fueled by White’s RBI double and a run-scoring single by Matt Schmeltzer. The Black Tornado tallied 10 runs on eight hits in the second inning to take a 14-0 lead. Beau Hovland keyed the outburst with a two-run single and an RBI double and Folsom had a two-run double and a single in the same stanza. Hovland blanked the Vikings through the first two innings, then got roughed up for six runs in the third. The senior pitcher surrendered five of the seven hits he allowed and also hit two batters and walked one in the inning. SOUTH MEDFORD 6, OREGON CITY 5 — Oregon City tied the game with three runs in the top of the seventh, but South Medford scored in the bottom of the inning at Miles Field for its fourth victory in as many outings this season. The Panthers won the game quickly with back-to-back doubles to open the seventh by Andy Narus and Dan Chancler. South Medford starter Tyler Heil left the game with a 5-2 lead after five innings. Reliever Marcus James retired the Pioneers in the sixth, but got into trouble by walking the first two batters in the seventh. Tim Holtz was summoned from the Panther bullpen to get out of the jam. After Holtz got the first out on a fielder’s choice, a South error allowed one run to score. The Pioneers tied the game on Terryn Caspell’s two-run double, then the Panthers turned a line drive out to centerfield into a double play. Panther sophomore catcher Ben Koziol had two hits and drove in South’s first two runs. The Panthers put together five hits and scored four runs in the fourth. Corey O’Neill sparked the rally with a two-run triple. South Medford hosts Southridge at noon today at Miles Field. Skyhawk hurlers Michael Rupp, Jordan Post and Andy Eiden combined for four strikeouts and didn’t walk a batter. Wes Shager paced the Southridge nine-hit attack with a 2-for-3, two-RBI, two-run performance. The Skyhawk catcher staked the visitors to the initial lead with a two-run homer in the second. Eagle Point pitcher Ron Depuy (2-1) pitched well at times but was touched for five extra-base hits. Depuy allowed three earned runs in five innings. He struck out eight and issued no walks. Eagle Point dropped to 2-2 in early season nonconference action. ASHLAND 8, SUNSET 6, 5 innings — At Ashland, John Goldberg went 3-for-3 and Chad Hegdahl had three RBI as Ashland won in five innings at its own seven-team tournament at North Mountain Park. The game was called entering the sixth inning due to darkness. Hegdahl’s two-run double was part of a five-run fourth that helped Ashland (3-0) to a comfortable 8-3 lead. Arron Nelson reached base three times via the walk and scored two runs for the Grizzlies, who play Summit at 2p.m. today.
