Nine players from North Medford, South Medford, Crater and Eagle Point made the 13-girl list. North won the conference title and South finished one game behind in the standings, but Roseburg’s Bryce Martin earned top coaching honors, and Indian forward Carli Godard was named player of the year. The Black Tornado led all schools with six total selections, including four senior first-teamers. Forward Emily Gross led a potent North offense, scoring 12 goals in 16 games this season. "She has done a great job in her four years on varsity," Tornado coach Dick Darcy said. "She is a good forward and has a real strong shot." Advertisement Just edged in MVP voting was South Medford midfielder Kelsey Corbin, a two-time unanimous first-team choice. "Kelsey loves the game, and it shows," South coach Cindy Jolly said. "She maintains the center very well and was a leader for us." As fearsome as North Medford’s offense was, it was the defense — which allowed only three goals in the regular season — that earned the most kudos as defenders Emily Hansen and Jennifer Standifer and midfielder Amber Wihtol all made the first team. "As a duo, Emily and Jennifer are the best defenders in the conference," Darcy said. "They have done a tremendous job back there." Also making the first-team for South Medford were forward Emma McConnell, the team’s leading scorer with eight goals, and goalkeeper Bethany Stousland. "The scary thing is, Emma probably could have had more goals," Jolly said. "She was sicker than a dog in the middle of the season and missed three games." Stousland played much of the season injured after dislocating her shoulder against Crater on Sept. 25. Crater’s Janelle Stoner and Eagle Point’s Andie Wilkinson were the only underclassmen on the first team. While the young Comets struggled to reach the net this season, it was no fault of Stoner’s, who tallied nine assists. "Janelle played every minute of every game for us," Crater coach Terry Fretz said. "She’s an all-out horse for us." Wilkinson is the first all-SOC first-team selection for Eagle Point since 2002. "Andie is a very hard worker and is always trying to inspire everyone around her," said Eagle coach Paul Munyon. "She makes everyone around her a better player." After two seasons as a first-team goalkeeper, North’s Caitlin Seeley was a second-team midfielder. "We needed her to switch and she was willing to do anything to help," Darcy said.
