Two bodies discovered in northeast Medford house Police respond to a report of two people down in a home at 1206 Covina Ave. in northeast Medford. [Mail Tribune / Mark Freeman] Tuesday Jan 2, 2018 at 12:20 PM Jan 2, 2018 at 1:13 PM Medford police are investigating the discovery of two bodies shortly after 10 a.m. today in a home at 1206 Covina Ave. in northeast Medford. Lt. Justin Ivens said the identities of the bodies, one male and one female, were not being released pending notification of next of kin. He also would not yet say how the couple had died. "We're in the early stages of this," Ivens said. Police had been conducting a welfare check at the home just after 10 a.m. when they saw a person down through a window. Once inside, they found two bodies, Ivens said. Neighbors identified the couple living there as renters Eric Hilsenberg and Charmaine Crunk. Next-door neighbors Rebecca Golden and roommate Mike White said the couple, who were not married, had lived there for several years and had guns in the house. Golden and White also said that Hilsenberg often claimed to them that Crunk was trying to kill him. "He really had a habit of fabricating a lot of things," White said. "You never knew what was true." Hilsenberg also told them he was dying of an unspecified illness and took many medications, they said. "We knew we didn't want our kids around him," Golden said. Golden lives next-door with her husband, four children and White. "They were both a bit off, mentally off," Golden said. Hilsenberg often brought paperwork, such as emails, to their house in attempts to prove Crunk's supposed infidelity and threats. "Honestly, I wish I could say I was surprised, but I'm not," White said. Neither Hilsenberg nor Crunk has a criminal history in Oregon, court records show. Deputy Medical Examiner Tim Pike was still on scene. Police carried a small dog from the home earlier, and Jackson County Animal Control responded to remove another dog.
