Phoenix 2nd in 4-way swim meet GRANTS PASS -- The Phoenix girls swim team took second-place just behind North Bend in the the first four-way meet of the season on Saturday. The Pirates finished ahead of Hidden Valley, Cottage Grove with an overall score of 94 and led overall into the final relay, but couldn't hold on. North Bend finished with 97 points. Kristen Heath captured two events for Phoenix, taking the 200-yard individual medley and the 500 freestyle. The Pirates also set two school records, surpassing the old mark of 2:19.50 in the 200 medley relay by six seconds and cruising by the old time of 1:58.08 in the 200 freestyle relay with a mark of 1:57.95. Anett Buchheim also fared well for Phoenix with a second-place finish in the 100 breaststroke and a third-place finish in the 200 freestyle. Selena Gell took third in the 100 butterfly while Jean Emerson captured third in the 100 freestyle. Hidden Valley ran away from the rest of the pack on the boys side, finishing 26 points ahead of second-place Cottage Grove. Phoenix's Peter Thornhill took second in the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke while Richard White was second in the 100 butterfly and third in the 100 breaststroke.
