October 13. 2014 6:10PM Ward 2 Q&A: Marlene Nuckols Marlene Nuckols If elected, what would be your top priority while in office? "I guess the biggest thing would be on helping the homeless and low-income families find a safe environment. If we can build up our workforce here, that will bring new businesses to the city and create jobs and get everybody moving the right direction." Do you think recreational marijuana should be legalized? "When it comes down to recreational, I am still on the fence of the issue. I am worried the medical side of this plant will get lost. We’re just starting to figure out what it can do. I am leaning more toward 'yes.' " Should the city continue its ban on medical marijuana dispensaries? "When it comes down to the medical side of it and lifting the ban and opening up the dispensaries in town, I want to see that (ban) overturned. I want to see them open and the medicine getting out there." How should the city deal with homeless people who cause problems in the parks? "We definitely have to find one location (in which to feed the homeless). I don’t like the idea of constantly moving them around. Some will stay and you can create a new problem in a new area. We’ve really got to find an area we can get them that’s safe. I don’t know if it’s so much of a camp. I’m still open to ideas as to where they can go. That’s something I’m still trying to work out and see what other people have ideas on." How would you be different as a leader? "I’m a woman, and when you look at the government here in Medford, it’s mainly male. I’ve lived in nine different states in three different time zones. I just bring a whole wealth of knowledge."
