Michael Wayne Overby, 23, was hospitalized in critical condition with a single chest wound from a small-caliber handgun, said Medford police Lt. Mike Moran. Police are seeking Royal Kent Kruesi, 28, in connection with the 3:28 a.m. shooting, Moran said. Kruesi stands 5 feet, 8 inches tall, weighs 170 pounds and has brown hair and green eyes. A former Medford resident, Kruesi was a longtime friend of other members of Overby’s family, Moran said. He apparently lived in Portland as recently as 10 days ago. Advertisement Moran said Kruesi came to a party at Overby’s home in the 1200 block of West Eighth Street. Sometime during the evening Kruesi and Overby began to talk about parenting styles, Moran said. The discussion turned into a loud argument that other people at the party interrupted several times, Moran said. Overby finally told Kruesi to leave his home, and when Kruesi did not leave, Overby tried to push him out of the house, Moran said. Moran said witnesses told police the two men struggled, and during the encounter Kruesi pulled out a handgun and shot Overby once in the chest. He then reportedly fled with a woman in a 1992 white Ford Aerostar van, Oregon license ZHE427. The van has a damaged passenger door. Moran said Kruesi is armed and should be considered dangerous.
