October 23. 2014 12:01AM Since You Asked: RCC/SOU Higher Education Center was indeed on 'Castle' Monday We were watching the latest episode of "Castle" Monday, and the outside of the school in the episode looked a lot like the RCC/SOU Higher Education Center in downtown Medford. Was RCC on "Castle" this week? How did that come about? — Cheryl R., via email   We reached out to a representative at ABC Studios, the company that produces the "Castle" television series for the ABC network (you've probably seen a little blip mentioning the production company at the end of the show after the credits), and asked about that episode, called "Child's Play," which aired Oct. 20. Spokesman Jonathan Hogan told us that the studio's post-production department purchased stock video shots of the building through its stock footage vendor FootageBank. Our next step was to check the FootageBank website to see whether we could find the clip ourselves. Sure enough, searches for "college" and "Medford" turned up scenes of that familiar downtown fixture. Seeing as these were clips that could be used for fictional productions, other keywords that would've turned up silent, high-definition clips of that building included "government building," "museum" and "suburban office." If a script ever calls for an "Oregon Museum of Suburban Offices and Government Buildings," the RCC/SOU building will be a contender. On its site, FootageBank boasts that it's the largest high-definition specialty footage company, and serves companies as diverse as Microsoft, Verizon, Sony Pictures and The Walt Disney Company. So how did a Medford building get on the site? The best answer we can give is an independent cinematographer put it there. "Our business model is that independent cinematographers submit clips of public buildings that they feel might be of interest for clip representation. Clips are then loaded to our website for preview and licensing purposes," FootageBank founder and President Paula Lumbard explained to us in an email. FootageBank works as a middleman to ensure production companies get the rights they need to the footage they seek, and it ensures that cinematographers get paid.
