Military news: Latona, Sholer Monday Oct 31, 2016 at 11:48 AM Oct 31, 2016 at 11:48 AM Latona joins Air Force Julia Latona has joined the U.S. Air Force under the Delayed Entry Program. The program gives young men and women the opportunity to enlist and delay going into basic military training for up to one year while they complete their educations and prepare for military service. Qualified recruits are eligible to receive skills training, experience, and education benefits. After completing basic military training and graduating as new "airmen," they each receive specialized technical instruction in one of more than 140 career fields. Latona reported to Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas, for basic training in September. Latona is the daughter of Kimberly Maletic of Prospect and Vincent Latona of Grants Pass, and step-daughter of John Maletic of Prospect. She is a 2016 graduate of Prospect High School. Sholer graduates military training in San Antonio U.S. Air Force Airman Destiny M. Sholer graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training also earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force. Sholer is the daughter of Mary D. Sholer of Medford and granddaughter of Ruth J. Sholer of Yuba City, Calif. She is a 2014 graduate of North Medford High School.
