SOU football game postponed due to smoke By Mail Tribune staff Updated: Sep 02, 2021 12:48 PM A A A few local high school games have been moved out of the area already, with North Medford to make a decision soon Thursday The Frontier Conference football game between Southern Oregon University and Montana State-Northern scheduled for Saturday at Raider Stadium has been postponed due to a forecast showing increased wildfire smoke and poor air quality through the weekend. The teams plan to make up the game next week during a conference-wide bye. More details will be released when those plans are finalized. Officials chose to make the call Thursday morning as MSU-Northern was set to start the long bus trip from Havre, Mont. All tickets purchased online can be used on the makeup date. Earlier this week, Phoenix High School relocated its season opener against Sutherlin to a road matchup at 7 p.m. Friday, while Crater moved its opener against North Bend to 5 p.m. Saturday at Marshfield High in Coos Bay. North Medford athletic director Brent McConaghy said a determination will be made at 3 p.m. Thursday whether the Black Tornado would play Friday at Spiegelberg Stadium. McConaghy said the contingency plan would be to play Del Norte High of California on its home field.
