The roll continues at Rogue Credit Union Tuesday Jan 30, 2018 at 5:45 PM Jan 30, 2018 at 5:45 PM Greg Stiles Mail Tribune @GregMTBusiness Rogue Credit Union continued on a roll in 2017. From branch expansion and increased membership to asset growth and its rewards program, the Medford-based financial institution hit on all cylinders. New offices opened in Central Point, Grants Pass and Roseburg, along with a drive-up location on West Main Street in Medford. The drive-up location near Sherm's Thunderbird proved an immediate hit with customers. "We were surprised," Chief Operating Officer Jeanne Pickens said. "Usually things are a little slow to take off, but that location is already handling 7,000 transactions a month. It really takes pressure off our north and south Medford locations." By comparison, the downtown Medford drive-up location on Front Street, which has been operating since 2003, handles 5,800 transactions a month. Rogue's deposits grew $124 million, or 10.9 percent, nearing $1.4 billion. At the end of the year Rogue Credit Union's loan portfolio was approaching $1.1 billion, a 12 percent increase from 2016. The institution's net worth jumped 9.8 percent. Membership grew at a 10.7 percent clip to 121,897 from 110,092, a pace that continues to surprise even the credit union's leadership. "We've grown over 10 percent in each of the past six years," Pickens said. "That's not a sustainable rate. From a market-share perspective there are not that many more members available. It will moderate at some point, but we want to continue to offer value to our members." Even with new offices and preparations for projects in Ashland and Klamath Falls, the credit union reported net income of more than $17 million. That was down from $19 million in 2016, but members earned $2.2 million in participation rewards. The credit union returned money through its ownership accounts, a Visa Platinum 1 percent cash back and Save the Change. “Rogue’s member-owners are experiencing the credit union difference in a real, tangible way,”  CEO Gene Pelham said. — Reach reporter Greg Stiles at 541-776-4463 or [email protected].
