He passed away July 8, 2015. David had battled cancer heroically for a long time. As a youngster, the family of seven siblings and their parents lived in Montana and Idaho before settling in Oregon. His parents farmed, ran a hotel and Clair's Inn & bakery in Talent. Ore. They worked very hard to raise the large family. His surviving siblings; Rae Ann Shonk, Linda Davis, Cindy Ibanez and Vern Davis, live here in the valley, while his sister, Kay Conway lives in Boston. His older brother, Larry Davis, passed away in 2012. Their parents are also deceased. David went into the U.S. Army in 1971 and was honorably discharged in 1973. He married Helen Andrie Steer in 1975 and had two beautiful daughters, Heather Davis of Eugene and Erin Davis of Boise, Idaho, who were by his side when he passed. He was a devoted father and adored his girls, the light of his life. He and Helen were divorced in 1988. He worked with his brother, Vern Davis as a general contractor in the valley for many years, and then on his own. He loved working with wood and was a very talented carpenter. He built and remodeled many homes over the years and had many loyal customers whom he considered friends. He could do almost anything and was a very artistic craftsman. He married Sue (Benge) Chapman in 1989 and was a loving father to her two children Lori Stone (Allen) of Portland and Sandi Pehowic (John) of Phoenix, Ariz. He has three wonderful grandchildren, Tammy Stone, Keifer Allen, and Johnathan Bradley Pehowic, and many nieces and nephews. David loved animals of any kind, sailing, creating , woodworking and traveling. He was loved and respected by all who knew him and this world will be a lot less bright without his gentle, kind, loving soul in it. As in life, he will be as giving in death, by donating his body to medical research. Hopefully, he will help find a cure for this dreaded disease. A celebration of his beautiful life is planned for a later date. The family would like to thank Asante Ashland Hospice for the loving and compassionate care they took of David and the family in his last days.
