Religion news: Judge rules boy can be given transfusion, despite parents' religious objections Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Dec. 22, 2014 @ 2:24 pm Posted Dec. 22, 2014 @ 2:24 pm » Social News WEEK IN RELIGION A judge in London ruled earlier this month that a young boy with severe burns can be given a blood transfusion, despite the objections of his parents, who are Jehovah’s Witnesses. In his ruling, Judge Andrew Moylan said that while he had no doubt the boy’s parents love their child, that the transfusion is in his best interest, and that he hoped the parents would be understanding as to why he had made the decision. Jehovah’s Witnesses say there are passages in the Bible that inform their position against transfusions. Two other High Courts judges made similar rulings in other cases earlier this year. SURVEY SAYS According to a Pew Research poll, Mexicans living in Mexico are, on average, more traditional than Mexican-Americans. The majority of both groups self-identify as Catholic, though the percentage of Mexicans identifying as Catholic (81 percent) is significantly higher than the percentage of Mexican-Americans who identify as such (61 percent). The survey showed that Mexican-Americans were more likely to support changes to church policies like allowing women to be ordained as priests.
