Rogue Valley Messenger stops publishing By Vickie Aldous Updated: Nov 08, 2022 07:52 PM A A The Rogue Valley Messenger has decided to call it quits and stop publishing. Staff members for the entertainment publication announced the decision this month. The Rogue Valley Messenger ran for nearly a decade, according to Phil Busse, who was editor and publisher. He said working on the publication was a fun project, but the work was done by part-time staff members who are scattered around the state and have other jobs and responsibilities. Busse said he lives in Portland, while the former managing editor lives outside Grants Pass, and the former production manager lives in Sunriver in Central Oregon. “The enthusiasm and support over the years has kept the publication going, but we simply do not have the capacity in our individual lives to keep the Messenger going,” Busse said. The Rogue Valley Messenger had published on a biweekly schedule, but then moved to quarterly issues, he said. More recently, it moved to an online-only format without a printed issue, according to its website. Busse said the Rogue Valley Messenger’s activities included putting out a music issue, hosting local music concerts and creating a Give Guide highlighting regional nonprofit groups while also hosting a Giving Tuesday event, Busse said. The Rogue Valley Messenger is not affiliated with the Mail Tribune. The Mail Tribune moved to an online-only format beginning in October and stopped printing and delivering newspapers because of high costs for producing and distributing the traditional newsprint publication. The Mail Tribune continues to have a staffed newsroom of full-time reporters, photographers and editors who live in the Rogue Valley.
