[Photo from OSP] Tuesday Jan 30, 2018 at 9:41 AM Jan 30, 2018 at 9:41 AM Local report Oregon State Police say a 7-year-old girl died Monday night and three others were injured when the vehicle they were riding in was rear-ended by a pickup truck at a high speed on Highway 140. The two-vehicle crash happened at about 6:30 p.m. at the highway's intersection with Lakeview Drive in White City, an OSP news release said. A preliminary investigation shows a 2006 Scion XB, operated by Jordan Bailey, was traveling eastbound on the highway and had slowed to make a left turn north onto Lakeview Drive. A 1985 Ford F250, driven by Eagle Point resident Devyn Baldovino, was also traveling eastbound and failed to recognize the left turn in progress. The pickup slammed into the back of the Scion at "near highway speeds," the release said. The 7-year-old, a passenger in the rear of the Scion, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders. Bailey, a 2-year-old child and a 14-year-old child were transported to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center to receive treatment for injuries. The severity of those injuries was not immediately available. The relationship between Bailey and the children has not been released. Baldovino was not injured. The eastbound lane of Highway 140 was shut down for about four hours during the initial response and investigation. OSP, Jackson County Fire District 3, the Oregon Department of Transportation and the Jackson County District Attorney's Office responded to the scene. Police are looking at distracted driving as the crash's cause.
