Letters to the Editor, April 17 Apr 17, 2016 12:00 AM A A Lucky to have Jordan This is in response to Mr. Goodrich's letter opposing Danny Jordan's pay increase. First, all of the opinions expressed are my own and not those of my volunteer organizations. I have observed county commissioner work sessions for over a year. During that time my opinion changed from agreeing with Mr. Goodrich's view to strongly opposing it. Jackson County is lucky indeed to have Danny Jordan as its administrator. He is knowledgeable, perceptive, business-oriented and represents the best interests of our citizens. Jackson County is in terrific fiscal condition due in large part to Danny Jordan's superior management skills. I say pay him every cent and be glad he is here. We could easily be in a similar financial condition as one of our neighboring counties, but thanks to Danny Jordan, we have police, fire, paved roads, parks, etc. It takes more than crunching numbers to accomplish that. Thank you, Danny, keep up the good work. Joyce Chapman Shady Cove Knowledge is power Charles Caleb Colton (1730–1782) said: We own almost all our knowledge not to those who have agreed, but to those who have differed.” Marcus Aurelius (philosopher/ Roman emperor) said: “If someone is able to show me that what I think or do is not right, I will happily change, for I seek the truth, by which no one was ever truly harmed. It is the person who continues in his self-deception and ignorance who is harmed.” It is my hope that Sharyn “Jinx” Arthur (letter, April 10) and Judy Van Blarcom (April 4) would be willing to do some research and reading about the wolves they so vehemently oppose. “Beyond Words: What Animals Think and Feel” by Carl Safina. Animal Wise: How We Know Animals Think and Feel by Virginia Morell. A Wolf Called Romeo, by Nick Jans. http://kswild.org/wolf and/or predatordefense.org I have read all the above mentioned and found them very informative. If either lady has any credible research articles that support their opinion, please share. I appreciate Grover Gardner,s thoughts (letter, April 10). “A mind is like a parachute. It doesn't work if it is not open.” ― Frank Zappa Diana Gilley Medford Vote for Crain Jackson County has some outstanding judges, but none finer than Circuit Judge Pat Crain. She is compassionate, firm and fair. As a CASA, I have seen Judge Crain make wise rulings concerning the children in Child Protective Services. And I have been present when she presides in Community Family Court, where she works with struggling parents, encouraging them to pull their lives together to save their families. I definitely will vote to re-elect Judge Crain. I encourage you to do so as well. Deborah Rothschild Phoenix A gift at South Wow! What school event had over 300 high school students coming back to school on a Friday night? No, it wasn't the usual sporting event. Poetry! Yes, poetry! At South Medford High School. Alec Walker presented a community event as a senior project. There were 17 performers and community leaders as judges. There were also on display over 100 poems illustrated in various media by the poet artists. It was a hotbed of creativity inspired by the innovative teachings of Emily Marshall Brink and Jenny Tyrrell, who have opened a pathway for them to have a voice. Maslow's hierarchy of learning says certain needs have to be met before learning can take place. I'd say the bells have been rung, and the doors are open. Their voices are strong. Kudos to South Medford High School! What a gift. Shannon L. Maddox Medford Lucky to have Jordan This is in response to Mr. Goodrich's letter opposing Danny Jordan's pay increase.
