Jackson County reports 54 new COVID-19 cases By Vickie Aldous By Mail Tribune staff Updated: Oct 28, 2021 06:16 PM A A Jackson County reported 54 new COVID-19 cases Thursday. Statewide, the Oregon Health Authority reported 1,116 new COVID-19 cases Thursday and 24 additional COVID-19-related deaths. Information about those who died, including their counties of residence, wasn’t available Thursday evening from OHA. OHA’s most recent update on COVID-19 breakthrough cases, released Thursday, found that 72.1% of the 7,723 reported COVID-19 cases between Oct. 17-23 occurred in people who were unvaccinated. There were 2,156 breakthrough cases, accounting for 27.9% of all cases. OHA said cases of COVID-19 are far more common in unvaccinated people. The report showed that the rate of COVID-19 in unvaccinated people is currently four times higher than in vaccinated people.
