The Ramsey Canyon fire is just about corralled. Oregon Department of Forestry officials sent out what they called a "final update" on the 1,971-acre blaze that's been burning near Sams Valley since the middle of last week. Nine days later, the fire is considered 95 percent contained and hasn't budged from the 1,971-acre mark for several days. "Crews will continue mop up efforts into the holiday weekend, with a focus on the north perimeter of the Ramsey Canyon fire," a news release reads. "With 95 percent containment, personnel and equipment is being significantly scaled back." The 132 remaining firefighters will continue conducting fire suppression and repair duties such as erosion control. They will also continue to use handheld infrared scanners to look for hot spots along the fire's perimeter. Several level 1 — be ready — evacuation notices remain in effect. They include East Evans Creek Road, 15500 through Meadows Road; 18504 and 18508 West Fork Evans Creek Road; Ramsey Road from the 11600 block through the Meadows Road intersection; and Meadows Road from East Evans Creek Road south to the address of 14765. The 52,839-acre Taylor Creek fire west of Grants Pass also remains at 95 percent containment, according to the Incident Information System, a wildfire suppression website. The nearby Klondike fire passed the 100,000-acre mark this week. It is 40 percent contained. The Miles and Columbus fires, both burning northeast of Trail, are 53 percent and 54 percent contained, respectively. They are 35,770 acres and 10,226 acres in size, respectively.
