North Lake tandem spells doom for Cougars Girls prep basketball SILVER LAKE -- Prospect could not match up against the North Lake post duo of Amy Castile and Stephanie Munroe in Skyline A League, South Division girls basketball Saturday. Castile and Munroe combined for 38 points and helped North Lake control the boards en route to a 54-40 victory. Both teams entered the game with undefeated division records. The win gives the defending three-time division champion Cowgirls sole possession of first place. Castile, a 6-foot-1 senior, ripped Prospect for 24 points, including a 12-of-17 effort from the foul line, while Munroe tossed in 14. "We didn't have a solution for her (Castile)," Prospect coach Don Alexander said. "She wore us out." The Cougars' full-court zone press proved ineffective from the outset and the Cowgirls raced to a 15-3 first-quarter lead. "We stood around a lot and turned the ball over," said Alexander about his team's ineffective opening period. Prospect (10-4, 6-1 Sky A) pulled to within three in the second quarter thanks to the hot shooting of Sarah Gordon and Ginny Lewis, but trailed by eight at halftime. Again the Cougars made a run in the third quarter, getting to within four points, but could never overtake the Cowgirls. "We never could get back close enough because of people in foul trouble and them going to the line all the time," said Alexander. North Lake went to the free-throw line 42 times, accounting for 26 points, while the Courgars were only 3-of-12 from the foul stripe. Another factor was North Lake's dominance on the inside. "I'm sure they outrebounded us by 15 or 20," said Alexander. "Their big girls underneath, Munroe and Castile, were real tough on us. We were shooting a lot of outside stuff. When we cooled off, North Lake controlled the boards." Ginny Lewis led Prospect with 11 points and Gordon added nine. PROSPECT (40) -- Gordon 9, Applegate 6, Stockebrand 2, Kraemer 6, G.
