Cole, Sturgell stay alive at invitational PRIMM, Nev. � Southern Oregon University wrestlers Devin Cole and Dan Sturgell remained alive in consolation action at the 51-team Cliff Keen Invitational Friday. Cole, a heavyweight, reached the quarterfinals before dropping an 11-3 decision to Oregon State�s Jason Cooley. Earlier in the day, Cole pinned Mike Roberts of Colorado Mines, defeated No. 11 seed Bart Johnson of Bose State 11-3 and knocked off No. 6 seed John Testa of Clarion (Pa.) 13-10. Sturgell, the Raiders� 184-pounder, won four matches Friday. He beat Brad Dubrovich of Colorado Mines 5-2, Rudy Ruiz of Kansas 11-2, Phil Freeman of Ohio State 5-4 and Jeremy Wilson of Portland State 8-4. Sturgell, the No. 3-ranked NAIA wrestler at 184, meets No. 2-ranked Tyson Theiveriege of Montana State Northern in his first match today. Southern Oregon is in 28th place in the tournament. Illinois is in first, followed by Nebraska and Oregon State. Zachary Mock posted a 2-2 record at the tournament at 174 pounds. Jeremy Wynia (141), Colin Murphy (149), John Sills (165) and Devin Parks (197) all posted 1-2 records for the Raiders, while Nolan Harris (125) went 0-2. Women�s Basketball HOLY NAMES 80, SOUTHERN OREGON 58 � At Oakland, Calif., Holy Names converted 50 percent of its field goals and outrebounded the Raiders 43-26 to avenge a loss to SOU on its home floor last week. Melissa Core scored a team-high 12 points to lead the Raiders (2-7), who shot 39 percent from the field and had 17 turnovers. Holy Names (2-5) jumped out to an 11-2 lead and managed a 41-27 halftime advantage as SOU struggled defensively. "We just did not play well the whole night," said SOU coach Shirley Huyett. "We had a couple spurts where we played all right but overall we just allowed them to get too many second opportunities and Holy Names shot the ball very well. "With the combination of the two, you�re in real trouble." Tiwana Merritt added seven points and four assists for the Raiders, while Alison Richards hada team-high six rebounds. SOU next takes on Pacific Union College tonight at 7:30.
